Our Counselor-in-Training (C.I.T.) Program is geared towards our oldest campers (those currently completing grades 8 & 9) that are interested in learning to take a leadership role in camp.
We believe that a strong C.I.T. program should not only teach participants to be a good counsellor, but should also teach them to be an effective leader in the community. Our goal is for participants to use the skills they’ve learned and developed at camp to implement at school, home, work or wherever life may take them.
Through our 8 week program, the C.I.T.’s will participate in a mix of leadership and team-building activities, they will learn about, follow and help implement camp policies (both general and program specific), as well as, job shadowing different positions at camp. C.I.T.’s work on and learn camp specific job skills that are used throughout the summer as they shadow staff, not only to assist and implement what they’re learning in the program.
C.I.T.’s are expected to follow all camp policies, wear their C.I.T. provided shirt daily and use the bus transportation provided. Also, since the C.I.T.’s spend time assisting the staff and the program, but are not being paid, they are eligible to receive volunteer hours for their time with us.
It is Camp Marydale’s hope that by the end of the program, each C.I.T. can learn a little bit more about themselves as individuals, team members and leaders.
