Catholic Youth Organization

Who Is the Catholic Youth Organization?

The Catholic Youth Organization (C.Y.O.) is one of the oldest, strongest and most effective non-profit agencies in
our community. Over the past 50 years, we have built our reputation on working with children, teens and their
families of all faiths and providing them with athletic, leadership training and outdoor recreation opportunities -
including children with disabilities and those who come from financially disadvantaged families.

On February 25, 2010, we will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of our biggest and most exciting children's
fundraising event - C.Y.O. Celebrity Dinner. This event raises the $50,000 needed each year to support our
One-to-One counsellor program, for children with special needs and provides the funding needed to maintain our
barrier-free recreational facilities. At the C.Y.O. we have made it our mission to break down barriers - be they
physical, attitudinal, or the lack of available funds that prevent children from participating in our outdoor athletic
programs.

Why the C.Y.O. needs your support?

Today, the C.Y.O. serves over 29,000 children, teens and their families in our community by creating and funding
numerous camping, athletic, youth ministry and community outreach programs and services including:

• Providing summer day camping and athletic programs for over 550 inner-city children through our
Camp Marydale and the Urban Hoops Basketball Camp programs,

• Serving over 6,000 campers annually at Camp Brébeuf with our outdoor education and leadership
programs,

• Ensuring funding is able to allow financially disadvantaged children, teens and families have access to
all C.Y.O. programs and services,

• Operating a respite centre called Dragonfly Lodge, a barrier-free, year round vacation destination
for children and their families in partnership with Community Living Hamilton,

• Operating SAGE Family Camp Program in partnership with the Good Shepherd/Martha House to provide
recreation, respite and leadership development for women and children survivors of family violence,

• Training over 310 teens and young adults to become volunteer leaders in our community and who
volunteer their time in support of our Crusader Athletic Program.

• Supporting parishes in their preparations for retreats (for confirmation, leadership development
and family programs) and other youth ministry initiatives.

How you can help!
The C.Y.O. has been blessed to be surrounded by friends who share in our commitment to create a community
accessible to all children. Help us to continue our mission by purchasing tickets; advertising in our dinner
program, or by becoming a dinner sponsor. Any support you provide will bring smiles to the thousands of young
children our agency serves.
