Leadership, Counsellors-In-Training & Camp Counsellors


CIT - PhotoThe C.Y.O. offers Leadership and Counsellor-in-Training (C.I.T.) programs designed to teach participants how to be strong and effective leaders, by teaching them leadership skills that can be used at school, home, work, or in the community. Our goal is for each participant to learn more about themselves as individuals and as team members allowing them the opportunity to develop their confidence.

Leadership Program – Camp Brébeuf:

Camp Brébeuf offers a Leadership Camp Program designed for young students entering grades 9, 10 and 11 in September of each year.

C.Y.O. Counsellor-in-Training Programs - C.I.T.’s:

The C.Y.O. offers two separate C.I.T. Programs, they are:

1) C.I.T. Program at Camp Marydale

NEW 2020 COUNSELLOR IN TRAINING MODEL!

JUNIOR C.I.T. PROGRAM

If your child is currently in Grade 8 (2019/2020 school year), they are eligible for our JUNIOR C.I.T. Program. This program is offered in 4 session of 2 week blocks, the cost is $175 per session. During the first week of the program, they will develop leadership skills, team building & bonding, review camp policies & procedures, all while participating in our camp activities (archery, boating, swimming etc.). During the second week, they will shadow a counsellor with a group of children aged 4 – 6 years old. They will assist with supervision, participate in activities with the campers and enhance their leadership skills. They will participate in debrief sessions, reflections and evaluations from the C.I.T. Program Coordinator throughout the entire 2 week block.

SENIOR C.I.T. PROGRAM

If your child is currently in Grade 9 (2019/2020 school year), they are eligible for our SENIOR C.I.T. Program. This program is offered in 2 sessions; July or August the cost is $175 per session. During the first week of the program, they will develop leadership skills, team building & bonding, review camp policies & procedures, all while participating in our camp activities. During the next 3 weeks, they will do a combination of the following: 

  • Shadow a counsellor with a group of children aged 4 – 6 years old. They will assist with supervision, participate in activities with the campers and enhance their leadership skills. 
  • Shadow a one to one counsellor, where they will assist a child with special needs in participating in all camp activities. This may include, but is not limited to feeding, changing, different communication styles etc.
  • Develop and implement games & activities to the camp program. 
  • Shadow a support/program staff and assist with implementing new program ideas.

Senior C.I.T.’s will participate in debrief sessions, reflections and evaluations from the C.I.T. Program Coordinator throughout the entire program.

2) C.I.T. Program at Camp Brébeuf

The C.I.T. program at our Camp Brébeuf is a 3 week, residential camping program, held in Rockwood, Ontario. Applicants can be male or female, who turned 16 before December of that same year. The program is designed for those who wish to develop the skills and confidence to become a registered summer camp counsellor for the Catholic Youth Organization. C.I.T.’s can apply to the Camp Brébeuf Program by visiting the Camp Brébeuf website.
