Crusader Athletics Program - Codes of Conduct

Rule Number One - Sports should be fun!

Although sports have changed over the years, our philosophy continues to be that athletics should be guided by the highest standards of good sportsmanship and fair play and that these children’s parents and guardians need to be informed of the expectations placed on them.

Sports are for children

The focus of our Crusader Athletic after school sports and recreation program is not for the parents – it’s for their children.  Since the number one rule in sports is to have fun for everyone involved, the Catholic Youth Organization, along with the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board have developed several Codes of Conduct for both the parents and the participants.

These Codes of Conduct ensure we maintain the high standard of conduct and Catholic spirit for our Crusader Athletic Program among student-athletes, parents and spectators. Codes of Conduct also outline the expectations we have for both spectators and parents of student-athletes regarding appropriate behaviours and conduct at school sporting events.

Pope Francis & the Vatican - “Giving the Best of Yourself”

The Vatican just released a new document that cautions against the dangers of highly competitive children’s sports and the pressure on young people who play sports to win “at all costs” and the un-sportsmanlike or violent behaviour of fans.  The C.Y.O. Crusader Athletic Program is a perfect example of these recent findings.   Since the inception of our agency’s athletic programs, the C.Y.O. has always adhered to a zero tolerance position and to make sports fun!   Click here to view Giving the Best of Yourself.

C.Y.O.’s Crusader Athletics - A Tradition of Excellence

Our Crusader Athletic Program has maintained a notable tradition of excellence and has consistently strived to maintain a positive Catholic learning environment for our participants. Codes of Conduct help to encourage positive behaviours in adults and the athletes which can only enhance the overall student-athlete’s sporting participation experience.

Finally, the C.Y.O. truly believes that athletics is an extension of the classroom, meaning that the behavior of players, parents and spectators must support a good, positive attitude and atmosphere, as we demonstrate our Catholic faith and values within our community.
