Sage Family Camp
The C.Y.O. is continually enhancing our programs and services in response to the changing needs of our community. Our agency works closely with partnering agencies such as the Good Shepherd/Martha House to serve women and their children who are survivors of family violence.
SAGE Family Camp - Adventure Based Counselling & Respite
In 1992 the Catholic Youth Organization approached the Good Shepherd Women’s Services and offered to host a small group of women and their children away from the shelter environment for a weekend of fun and relaxation at a C.Y.O. Camp. The SAGE Family Camp Program that grew out of that first meeting has been providing not only a recreational experience, but the time and space for women and their children to recover from the emotional wounds of violence.
Over 1,200 women and children - Embarked upon the SAGE journey.
SAGE Camp provides a recreational and therapeutic camp experience for women and their children who have experienced abuse. Participants are offered a range of new and exciting activities from canoeing and archery, to balancing on a rope strung between trees, to snowshoeing, tobogganing and skiing, in an effort to:
- Promote healing, empowerment and revitalization of family life for women and children,
- Help develop qualities of self-esteem, relationship-building, trust and leadership in its participants so that they can go on to help others in the community,
- Provide women and their children who have an experienced or violence an opportunity to participate in much needed recreational activities.
