“Building My Leadership Skills”

As a student who has been involved with the CYO since i was in elementary school, and have had the opportunity working for them this past summer, i can confidently say the CYO has positively influenced others and me through my journey as a young athlete and in building my leadership skills.

Beginning in elementary school, the CYO organized competitive sports within the school community. This is where i finally had the chance to tryout a new sport like volleyball, ice hockey, and flag football for the school team. I was able to go through the process of tryouts, learned about team commitment, and what it was like to be a part of a team. This is a special and fun opportunity for kids to put themselves out there, discover talents, and make friendships through the course of grade school.

These great memories and my interest in athletics and teaching young kids led me to reach out and become a CYO camp counselor this past summer. The CYO camp is a fantastic camp and opportunity for kids to continue these programs through out their summer, while meeting new friends, gaining knowledge on new sports, and having a blast in the process. The team built at CYO is a fun encouraging environment where we put the kid’s needs and enjoyment first. The organization has given me the chance to support these young athletes while getting to see the excitement and fun they get every week of camp. The CYO has led me to build strong friendships through summers of working together and so many positive memories built that I am lucky enough to look back on, from my first CYO sports game, to working for them now as a camp counselor.

Thank you,

Brooke Sullivan
