Porto Family Fund

The C.Y.O. acknowledges with thanks the recent donation from the Porto Family Fund at Hamilton Community Foundation.

A summer walk on the nature trail

A grant to the Catholic Youth Organization from the Porto Family Fund at Hamilton Community Foundation will help to provide more children with healthy and fun outdoor activity this summer.

The fund had been established at Hamilton Community Foundation in memory of Vivian Porto, her 13 year old son, Francesco, her 10 year old daughter, Azzadine and her 10 year old niece, Emily. A grant was made at this time in memory of Vivian, Francesco and Azzadine Porto.

The C.Y.O. is thankful for the grant. The funds will enable the participation of more children in this summer’s outdoor recreation “camperships” at Mount Hope’s Camp Marydale.

Just another day at summer camp

The C.Y.O. for decades has provided summer day camps at Mount Hope’s Marydale Park, athletics summer camp, and overnight activity camps at Camp Brébeuf in Guelph.

“Our Camp Marydale program strives to honour the Porto Family as we dedicate ourselves daily to provide fun and wholesome activities for children and youth,” said Executive Director of the Catholic Youth Organization, John Spatazzo.

Hamilton Community Foundation has been working to drive positive change in Hamilton since 1954. This is achieved by helping people give in a way that has meaning to them and impact in the community, providing grants and financing to charitable organizations and initiatives and bringing people together to address priority issues that affect Hamiltonians. Last year HCF gave 893 grants to 318 charities, totaling $11.5 million. The foundation also provided loans of $9.9 million to charities and non-profits across Hamilton.

Every child deserves to play.
