“Lessons Learned, Memories Made”
The Catholic Youth Organization had a major impact on my life since the age of seven. From the moment I ran my first cross country in 2011 with the Crusaders Athletic Program to this past fall where I worked the event, I carry forward with me all the lessons learned, and memories made. I was granted the opportunity to participate in all sporting events including cross country, basketball, volleyball, flag football, and track and field throughout my elementary years. Moreover, I then became an employee and worked under John Spatazzo and Carla Underhill starting in high school. The experiences, relationships, and lessons learned through the C.Y.O. have been instrumental in shaping the person I am today.
At an incredibly young age I was taught the importance of teamwork and collaboration through sport. The significance of remaining positive during stressful situations and how to be a leader. Sport provided by the C.Y.O. taught me and many kids the valuable life lesson of highs and lows through the wins and losses. The most beautiful part is that all events are cost-free for families, and no matter their socioeconomic status, they can find comfort in knowing their child can participate through physical activity in their everyday life at school from the Crusaders Athletic Program.
From high school to university is a time of significant growth and self-discovery. The C.Y.O. became a second family and fostered an environment that encouraged spiritual growth, camaraderie, and a sense of purpose. The connections forged in C.Y.O. extend beyond coworkers, with many peers becoming life-long friends. John Spatazzo and Carla Underhill continue to inspire me today through their hard dedication, leadership, organization, adaptability, and most importantly, their interpersonal skills. It is a great privilege of my life to know and to work with incredible role models.
The values instilled during these years have been a guiding light. The strong foundation of faith, community, and service provided me resilience. Looking past personal growth, I can look at connections formed with the community. One of the most valuable aspects of my C.Y.O. experience has been emphasizing service and giving back to the community. Through various C.Y.O. initiatives and projects, I learned the importance of selflessness and the joy that comes from helping others.
I want to express my gratitude to the C.Y.O. family for being a guiding presence throughout my journey. The lessons learned, the friendships created, and the values instilled have been the pillars of my success. I am beyond grateful and proud to be a part of the C.Y.O. legacy, and I am excited to continue carrying its principles to the future.
Sincerely,
